As the fifth collection featured in Vanity Teen’s On Our Radar FW26 edition, Matières Fécales delivers one of its most confrontational statements yet. Fall/Winter 2026, titled The One Percent, is less a runway show and more a psychological autopsy of wealth, privilege, and the fragile architecture of power.
Designed by Montreal-based duo Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran, the collection draws from their opposing upbringings — one raised in poverty in Cartierville, the other in affluent Westmount. That tension becomes the emotional core of the show: luxury as aspiration, luxury as alienation, luxury as illusion.
Structured in three tableaux — the power of archetypes, the power of community, and the power of the future — the runway opens with a grotesque bourgeois fantasy. Think distorted “New Look” silhouettes, severe cashmere capes, and opera-length white lamb leather gloves stamped with red palms, a piece titled “Guilt Gloves” created to match heels developed with Christian Louboutin. The message is clear: glamour bleeds.
Tailoring in double-faced cashmere and Prince of Wales checks clashes with blinded-by-money masks and hyper-exaggerated ball gowns worn by surgically enhanced figures — a sharp commentary on aesthetic obsession and inherited elitism. Performer Alexis Stone appears as a hyperreal symbol of transformation, blurring beauty and distortion.
The second act pivots toward resistance. Hoodie capes and elongated silhouettes channel the brand’s tight-knit community — often labelled a “cult” following — reclaiming power through collective identity rather than capital. It’s defiance stitched in jersey.
The final tableau interrogates immortality and legacy, referencing figures like Bryan Johnson and the timeless presence of Michèle Lamy, contrasting bio-optimization with fearless aging. The show closes with a silhouette inspired by an Elizabethan queen — a full-circle moment rooted in a student project the designers first conceived 12 years ago under mentor Milan Tanedjikov.
With The One Percent, Matières Fécales doesn’t just critique the elite — it dismantles the fantasy from within. Power, here, is neither aspirational nor absolute. It’s performative, inherited, constructed — and dangerously easy to lose.
