The mother and son relationship for the most part, is still not a 100% established unlike the bond shared between father and daughter, or even father and son. Here’s why.
Besides the thoughts that a man is most likely to become emotionally soft and tender when they share certain time and relationship with their mothers, most people fear for the control the mothers would have towards the affairs of the son.
However the case, a mother’s place in a son’s life can never be overemphasized. They nurture, groom, raise, and even teach kids how well to exploit their seeming weakness into strengths.
A Nigerian creative team took a unanimous decision to create an editorial that strikes on the salience of a mother’s role in the life of her son, to further accredit the need to formalize genuine mother and son relationship.
NWOKE NNE YA – MY MOTHERS SON
Over the period of the lockdown, I stumbled on images of Mary, the mother of Jesus and wondered about how she was presented to us through art and how that has influenced pop culture – sort of.
The relationship between sons and their mothers has been pathologized, idealized and surprisingly, largely unexplored.
This editorial validates the salience of a mother’s role in her son’s quests for true happiness and of the lived experiences of pain, joy, and persistence that comes with that type of freedom. It speaks to the tradition of preserving and passing along stories that reflect the strengths and struggles related to the formation of our identity and expression.
