The wallet…probably the one accessory that men have the most interaction with. A daily carry essential along our keys (and probably masks considering the current scenario), the wallet could be the one accessory that says more about you after your personality.

Despite being a statement piece that goes beyond the simple purpose of storing cash and cards, the wallet has been an underrated item, giving it the same consideration as the place where it is commonly put: the back pocket. Even if its commonly place on the back of your denims, a wallet does its magic by two means: subtlety and functionality, without crushing your outfit and giving the impression that one of your buttocks is bigger than the other.

Choosing the right wallet

The Basics

Despite its size, choosing the right wallet could be quite a challenge, so first things first:

Bifold

Common type of wallet. Regular size and simple design for storing cards, cash, and bills in a conventional way. Lightweight, but limited card slots.

Cardholder

 Super-slim with multiple card slots. Minimalist design and lightweight, but with little room for cash. Ideal for those who live only on plastic.

Travel/Passport

Enough space and pockets for securing your travel id’s essentials: passport, boarding pass, receipts. Elegant design but a little pricey.

Neck

Recent seasons have show the neck pouch trend (e.g. Jacquemus SS 19). It can either be wore on the neck or as a belt loop on jeans. Stylish but, rob attractive.

How Not To Use A Wallet

When it comes to its use, the answer depends on how well the wallet adapts to your daily routine: a blindfold is useless if you carry a few cards while the same applies to a card holder if you carry a lot of cards, ID’s, money, or change. However, the most common no no about how to use a wallet is Seinfeld’s George Costanza’s wallet. It might sound a cliche, but it is the most common reference or cautionary tale for ‘what NOT to do with your wallet”.

This expression (which you can also find on Urban Dictionary) makes reference to the episode from late 1980s show Seinfeld where George Constanza’s wallet was so overstuffed with a lot of unnecessary things to such an extend that the wallet reaches its max and eventually explodes on the street, in a shower of money and receipts.
