Sarah Jessica Parker in SATC had a ground-breaking role. Not only did she establish what became an ideal of sorts for all chick-flicks thereafter, but she was also the very first person on-screen to give so much importance to a bag (it’s a Baguette!). And undoubtedly, she set trends that we’re still following nearly twenty years later, starting from the impractical, glamorous micro bag-trend to fanny packs.
So this time, I decided to make a tribute to SJP’s original Gucci waist pack with Gucci’s newest set of signature embossed belt bags from SSENSE.
Offered in two contrasting shades of black and white, these two belt bags also slightly differ in terms of size. The grained leather pouch in off-white is actually a tennis belt bag, so it’s pretty large measuring approximately 15.5″ in length x 8.5″ height x 3.25″ width. With perforated detailing, embossed logo pattern, silver-tone hardware and contrasting burnished edges in black throughout, this waist pouch’s creamy white shade is as versatile as white sneakers, while its tonal adjustable webbing belt-style strap complete with press-release fastening ensures maximum convenience on the go. That’s not to say, however, that it isn’t organised; with a foldover pocket fastened magnetically at the face and zip closure at main compartment allows you to be organised, whether in the tennis court or at the mall. The interior features textile lining in beige.
The black buffed leather pouch, while also featuring perforated detailing and tonal embossed logo pattern throughout, is slightly smaller at 11″ length x 7″ height x 2″ width. The only other notable difference in it is the logo-engraved press-release fastening of the belt-strap, an exta detail for those who appreciate finesse. It’s interior is also lined in canvas, so it’s extra durable as well.
What I really love about both these bags is that they’re extremely elegant and unisex, so if SJP were to return for a new franchise to SATC, she and her husband Big could both potentially be wearing the white and black belt-bags, having aged gracefully from original monogram canvas to embossed lambskin. This is, therefore, also a perfect late Valentine’s gift for your better half if you still haven’t gotten him/her one, so grab ’em both now, they’re only $1290 USD on SSENSE!
