Having lost two fashion legends this year, Kenzo Takada, founder of Kenzo, and Kansai Yamamoto, both Japanese designers living in Europe, revolutionized the fashion industry with their unique styles and strong designs. Felipe Oliveira Baptista, the current artistic director of Kenzo, presents a collection with the essence of these two legends.
What really started me on this idea was their common burst of joy, intuition, and freedom. What a delightful idea to start a dialogue between these two pioneers and punks of fashion.”
Felipe Oliveira Baptista, artistic director of Kenzo.

This collection has a special meaning for many people due to the importance of both designers and it is a tribute to them and their incredible talent. “Although their body of work is very distinctive, the connections and links between the two are multiple,” said Baptista. He has created pieces that combine both designer’s styles and philosophies, one of which is the reinterpretation of traditional representations of animals in Japanese art. This is the reason why this collection is mainly focused on animals. “Animals and animal prints often gained a pop-manga treatment at Kansai, while at Kenzo it was more about their celebration and interaction with nature.” In addition to this main theme, both designers also appreciated youth culture, comfort, movement, and joy.
Both Kenzo and Kansai believed in comfort «easy to move in» clothes. Both believed that fashion should talk to everyone.
The collection will be available from 30th November 2020, in KENZO stores globally and on kenzo.com
