A Visual Journey into the Hidden Sensibility of Masculine Grunge by Don Nixon

Photographer Don Nixon @don.ixon and fashion stylist Suthee Ritthaworn @sutheeritt share in an exclusive a sublime story featuring model Lyu Haochen @lyu_haochen at Union management @union.mgmt.

For this editorial, the duo decided to step out of their conventional style and give it a new twist; and it seems that when something is meant to be good, all the necessary conditions come together to make it happen, as the idea they had in mind for this editorial was to photograph the male model in the dark corners of the studio building, and the very day of the shoot the weather was rainy, with a dark gray sky, perfect for the creative direction they had in mind.

“We decided to challenge ourselves by being rebellious to ourselves doing the opposite of what we normally do. As we normally focus on shooting with female models and we love the beauty of femininity as well as grooming but we chose to shoot a male model in the most natural ways without any grooming. The photos came out very interesting. It feels grunge and still gives off the romance at the same time like seeing the softness of masculinity. 

I think it’s more of a challenge that if I want to try creating a grunge story at its optimal without a full on the grunge elements might be the  point that reflects the style in my most contemporary ways.”

Portraying the allure of the story is 20-year-old LYU Haochen. Originally from Shanghai, China, LYU signed with UNION MGMT this year, surely a model to keep an eye on.
