The single “how could i not fall in luvv” by KO, also known as Koala, was officially launched on April 30th across all major streaming platforms. Additionally, she recently unveiled the song “i don’t want anything to do with you anymore,” which centers around confronting personal struggles, letting go, and finding solace in the process of catharsis. Immerse yourself into oue exclusive interview with KO for Vanity Teen:

What inspired you to create your latest single “i don’t want anything to do with you anymore”

The origin of “i don’t want anything to do with you anymore”began with a period of introspection, where I found myself grappling with the dynamics of a relationship that had soured over time. It’s about breaking free from a toxic bond and having the courage to walk away from what no longer serves your well being.

The new single channels a lot of raw energy and angst, can you tell us about the process of writing this song?

Writing this song came really easily and quickly, which is always really enjoyable when I’m writing. It is kind of a visceral experience because at first you have no idea what to say, but then the most honest thing you didn’t even know you were feeling comes out.

How does this single differ from your previous music both lyrically and musically?

If you listen to my body of music so far – it flows between a lot of genres. This one is upfront and a little bit angry.

Is there a particular message or theme you aimed to convey through this song?

Absolutely. With this song – the overarching theme revolves around confronting personal demons, letting go, and finding catharsis in the process. It’s about acknowledging and embracing the full spectrum of our feelings, even the ones that are uncomfortable.

How did the collaboration with Krishnamusic, Boyband, and Jibao come about in this release?

I was talking to Krishna about doing more punk rock / alternative rock music, and he really wanted me to do more of that so that’s how this song came about.

Can you describe the significance of the title of the single and how it encapsulates the essence of the song?

I love long titles. “I dont want anything to do with you anymore” is just so blunt and direct. You know exactly what it means when it’s said to you.

As an artist, how do you navigate the balance between vulnerability and empowerment in your songwriting?

By being open and honest with myself first. I’m trying to journal more because everyone says it’s good for you, but it’s so hard for me. I think it’s easier for me to write a song about how I feel. I think that embracing your vulnerability is empowering.

Are there any specific themes or motifs in your music that you find yourself continually drawn to exploring, and how do they manifest in this single?

The theme of “letting go” is recurring in my music. I like the idea of releasing the past, embracing change, and moving forward with a sense of newness.

What do you hope listeners will take away from this single?

I hope they finally cut off that one person in their life that was holding them back.

Can you share any rituals or routines you follow to get into the creative mindset when writing new music?

Usually I’ll drink my matcha, light my candle, and play some video games – and then I feel good to go.

What role do you believe music plays in helping listeners navigate difficult emotions or experiences, and how do you hope your music contributes to this?

I think music can help us feel seen. When you don’t think anyone is feeling the same way as you, but then you hear a song and you feel validated. I hope my music can do that for someone.

In what ways do you think this single reflects the current cultural or social landscape?

Well, this is actually kind of opposite to how the song is written. I think currently we are quick to cut someone off and not try to develop real connections with people anymore. Everything seems replaceable, and that’s not a good thing. We should try to be more understanding and open to others, unless it’s completely  a lost cause then we should refer to this song.

As an artist, how do you balance staying true to your artistic vision while also evolving and experimenting with new sounds and styles?

It is the artist’s job to constantly evolve and experiment. As long as it’s something that brings you happiness, then you are staying true to yourself.

If you could choose one word to encapsulate the essence of your new single, what would it be, and why?

Discontinued. Because you’re severing ties, breaking away, and disengaging from all of the negativity.

A letter to your future self.

Dear Me,
Never give up! No matter what.
I love you,
KO
