Gundi Studios SS27: The Hour When the Party Ends and Life Begins

An ode to messy, wild, and free women who refuse to live in a straight line. Gundi Studios’ SS27 collection blends slow craftsmanship, Indian heritage, and contemporary rebellion for a generation that wears the night into the morning.

Gundi Studios SS27 is an ode to a messy, wild, and free women who refuse to walk through life in a straight line.

Handmade embroideries, beads, and silks for women who never live in a straight line. There is a precise hour, the one between night and morning, when the party is winding down, but the night hasn’t quite let go yet. Your makeup is a little smudged, your shoes are in your hand, your phone is almost dead, and someone lost their friends along the way without making a big deal out of it.

It is from there, from that uncertain and perfect light, that Gundi Studios SS27 collection begins, presented at Paris Fashion Week: an ode to messy, wild, and free women who refuse to walk through life in a straight line.

Different women, in different lives, each inside her own beautiful chaos

The protagonists are many, and no two are alike in Gundi Studios SS27. There is the one running late from work, still carrying the night on her shoulders. There is the one who stayed out until dawn, watching the sun rise with the sudden, simple feeling that life is wonderful. There is the one who lost her friends along the way and, truth be told, doesn’t fret about it too much. There are those still dancing, those falling in love, those already thinking about tomorrow.

The Inspiration: Peggy Guggenheim and Women Patrons

Guiding the Gundi Studios SS27 collection is Peggy Guggenheim and the great tradition of women patrons: women who collected art, beauty, and life with equal appetite. It is a reference that changes how we look at the clothes. They are not simple garments to be worn, but works born from the hands of true artists, carrying with them the landscape they come from and generations of inherited knowledge.

Slow Fashion, Living Heritage

Here, true luxury is time. Gundi Studios bridges ancient craftsmanship and contemporary design, collaborating with over 120 female artisans across India. From hand-crafted bandhani skirts in Kutch to Chanderi silk along the Narmada River and hand-knitted Himalayan Eri silk, traditional techniques are radically reinterpreted. The result? Layers clash, textures contradict, and the traditional meets the unruly, crafted for complex, rebellious women who refuse to choose just one version of themselves.

Who the Gundi Are?

The name is no accident. “Gundi” is a colloquial word meaning a “misfit,” a little girl who refuses to behave. Disobedience, curiosity, and independence form the creative philosophy of the brand, founded in New York in 2019 by Creative Director Natasha Sumant. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design, Sumant created Gundi Studios as an underground artistic project, which later evolved into a true fashion brand currently presenting its collections in New York, Paris, and Mumbai.

And perhaps this is the most beautiful point of the collection. These garments don’t belong to a single hour of the day. They are worn for the night and still carried into the morning: through work and parties, love stories, exhaustion, and euphoria.

They transition from a heel in hand to asphalt still fresh with morning dew, from a stretched-out aperitivo to a dawn breakfast, without ever apologizing for the chaos they embody.

For a generation that lives everything all at once, that changes its mind three times before dinner, and has no intention of fitting into a single category, Gundi Studios’ SS27 is a small declaration of freedom.

A celebration of women just as they truly are: never singular, never still, and always becoming.
