YG Entertainment’s highly anticipated new girl group, BABYMONSTER, officially debuted yesterday with their first single “Batter Up” and its official music video. This six-member group marks YG’s first girl group launch since BLACKPINK in 2016. The members include Haram and Rora from Korea, Chiquita and Pharita from Thailand, and Ruk and Asa from Japan.
BABYMONSTER expressed their excitement in a statement, saying, “We are thrilled to have reached this dream day. We will do our best to showcase our unique musical style.” Notably, prior to their debut, fans had access to a documentary on YouTube, detailing the group’s journey, which had been released months earlier. BABYMONSTER also shared news of future plans in the statement, hinting at “a variety of content and activities for fans.”
The debut single “Batter Up” features Korean hip-hop rap style with a heavy beat, low-frequency bass, and drums, combined with brass instruments and special effects in the chorus. The song’s style, structure, and arrangement elements are distinctive, reminiscent of many BLACKPINK hits. The music video showcases changing member outfits and integrates vibrant scene designs and computer graphics technology, highlighting YG’s unique visual style.
