Dolce&Gabbana Alta Sartoria

Dolce&Gabbana Alta Sartoria 2026: Where Sicilian Tradition Meets Creative Maximalism

by Ada Maria Francesca Romeo

Dolce&Gabbana explores the concept of honor in its latest Alta Sartoria collection, staged in the breathtaking setting of Taormina’s Ancient Theatre between the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, reaffirming once again the house’s unmistakable maximalist vision of spectacle.

For its latest Alta Sartoria presentation, Dolce&Gabbana chose one of the Mediterranean’s most evocative landmarks. Built in the 3rd century BC and overlooking the Ionian Sea with Mount Etna rising in the distance, the Ancient Theatre of Taormina was far more than a dramatic backdrop. Its monumental architecture became an integral part of the narrative, reinforcing the dialogue between history, art and craftsmanship that has long defined the maison’s identity.

The collection pays tribute to Cavalleria Rusticana, Giovanni Verga‘s celebrated novella, later transformed into Pietro Mascagni‘s iconic opera. A story of passion, jealousy and honor, it immediately set the tone for the show, which opened to the emotional notes of the opera’s famous Intermezzo. Throughout the collection, honor emerges as its central theme, expressed through a wardrobe that restores dignity and ceremonial significance to menswear.

In Verga’s story, set during Easter celebrations in the Sicilian village of Vizzini, clothing carries profound social meaning. Attending Mass requires one’s finest attire: a crisp white shirt, waistcoat, tailored jacket and carefully chosen accessories become symbols of respect, status and belonging. Dolce&Gabbana reinterpret this ritual, transforming it into a celebration of Italian tailoring, where every garment becomes an expression of identity, dignity and tradition.

Alta Sartoria continues to serve as the maison’s creative laboratory, a space where exceptional craftsmanship can flourish beyond the commercial constraints of ready-to-wear. In Taormina, this vision materializes through a wardrobe built around impeccable tailoring and extraordinary artisanal expertise.

Tuxedos, overcoats and tailored suits are paired with richly embroidered jackets crafted from velvet, silk, brocade and jacquard, each enhanced by intricate hand-finished embellishments. White shirts remain a constant throughout the collection, yet no two are alike. Detachable collars, delicate pleats, lace inserts and ornamental appliqués demonstrate how even the most timeless garment can become an exercise in haute craftsmanship. Every look celebrates the savoir-faire of Italian ateliers, reaffirming the value of time, technique and meticulous handwork.

Within the theatrical atmosphere of Taormina, the garments come alive as protagonists of the performance, becoming objects capable of telling stories while connecting fashion, art and cultural heritage. It is a narrative approach that Dolce&Gabbana has cultivated for decades and one that continues to distinguish the maison in an industry increasingly drawn towards minimalism. While many brands embrace restraint, Dolce&Gabbana remain faithful to an instantly recognizable visual language built upon opulence, theatricality and extraordinary decorative richness.

With this collection, Dolce&Gabbana portray a man who is unafraid of excess, wearing it as a declaration of identity rather than ornament alone. Fascinated by creative maximalism, he honors tradition while embracing craftsmanship, standing ready to defend his sense of honor, much like the protagonists of the timeless Sicilian story that inspired the entire collection.
