Dolce&Gabbana explores the concept of honor in its latest Alta Sartoria collection, staged in the breathtaking setting of Taormina’s Ancient Theatre between the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna, reaffirming once again the house’s unmistakable maximalist vision of spectacle.
For its latest Alta Sartoria presentation, Dolce&Gabbana chose one of the Mediterranean’s most evocative landmarks. Built in the 3rd century BC and overlooking the Ionian Sea with Mount Etna rising in the distance, the Ancient Theatre of Taormina was far more than a dramatic backdrop. Its monumental architecture became an integral part of the narrative, reinforcing the dialogue between history, art and craftsmanship that has long defined the maison’s identity.
The collection pays tribute to Cavalleria Rusticana, Giovanni Verga‘s celebrated novella, later transformed into Pietro Mascagni‘s iconic opera. A story of passion, jealousy and honor, it immediately set the tone for the show, which opened to the emotional notes of the opera’s famous Intermezzo. Throughout the collection, honor emerges as its central theme, expressed through a wardrobe that restores dignity and ceremonial significance to menswear.
In Verga’s story, set during Easter celebrations in the Sicilian village of Vizzini, clothing carries profound social meaning.
