Sophie Calle through The Hotel (1981), continually narrated and broke into the boundaries between public and private. Through documentation and performance, privacy loses its value. There is no more intimacy, everything is narrated and exposed.
Unconventional makes the spectator an integral part of the show allowing him to know the spaces and dimensions, leaving free will to the imagination but making him insecure about the contemporary expectations and what could happen.
The focus is on the distortion of the rules of academic and conventional photography and cinematography; the proportions of the bodies are altered, there is no fiction in the expression of the faces; the artificial smiles of a ‘perfect’ scene give way to reality that shows boredom, tiredness and tension due to the set.
