At just 13 years old, Violet McGraw is already a commanding presence in Hollywood. From her chilling performance in M3GAN to her highly anticipated return in M3GAN 2, Violet has captivated audiences with her emotional depth and undeniable screen presence. Reprising her role as Cady, she steps back into the eerie world of AI horror — only this time, with a fresh perspective. The sequel, set to premiere on June 27, 2025, promises to deliver more thrills, heart, and of course, M3GAN’s signature unsettling charm.

We caught up with Violet to discuss her excitement for the sequel, the joys of working alongside her co-stars, and what it’s really like to film a horror movie.
How does it feel to return as Cady in M3GAN 2? Were you excited when you found out about the sequel?
“Oh my gosh!! It feels so amazing to be returning as Cady. I was so excited when I found out there was going to be a sequel. When I say I love everyone on M3GAN, I’m not just saying that. Allison Williams is literally the most fun person to work with — she makes me laugh so hard in between scenes, on and off set. She’s become someone I love and trust so much. Our director Gerard is amazing and his vision is always next level. Plus, I get to work with Aimee Donald, who is one of my best friends. It’s really like coming home to family.”
How do you balance acting, school, and just being a regular 13-year-old?
“Balance can sometimes be hard. But my parents have always made sure we didn’t get too overwhelmed. When we were younger, they didn’t let us jump from project to project because they wanted us to have a normal childhood. I also play club soccer, which keeps me grounded. Having that balance really helps me stay grateful every time I get to work.”
What was the biggest difference between filming M3GAN and M3GAN 2? Did anything feel easier or more challenging this time?
“The biggest difference is that Cady isn’t as sad as she was in the first one. Being back in New Zealand also felt so good. Since I had already worked with Gerard, Alison, Jen Van Epps, Brian Alvarez, and Aimee before, it really felt like a family reunion.”
Do you have a favorite behind-the-scenes moment from filming M3GAN 2?
“One of my favorite moments was definitely a scene I had with Aristotle. I can’t say too much, but it was so fun! Aristotle is hilarious — he’s quickly become one of my favorite people to be around.”
Since this is a horror movie, were there any scenes that actually scared you while filming? Or are you totally used to it now?
“I’m totally used to it now! Filming M3GAN movies is just so much fun. Honestly, seeing M3GAN again for the sequel was like running into an old friend who had a little work done!”
You worked closely with Aimee Donald, who plays M3GAN. How has your friendship grown since the first film?
“Aimee and I are still as close as ever. We always keep in touch, and sometimes we see each other at horror cons, which is so special. Even though she lives in New Zealand, I really consider her one of my best friends. Whenever we’re on set together, those days are extra fun.”
What’s something about filming a horror movie that most people wouldn’t expect?
“I think people assume horror movies are scary to make, but honestly, it’s so much fun. On M3GAN, we have the best producers, cast, and crew. There’s always someone making you laugh.”
Cady goes through a lot in the M3GAN movies. How do you get into character for those emotional scenes?
“In the first movie, it was emotionally draining to imagine what it would be like if my entire family suddenly died. I’d think about never talking to my sister or brothers again, and the tears would come. For every role, I try to put myself in the character’s situation. It makes finding the emotion so much easier.”
You’ve worked with incredible actors. Has anyone given you advice that really stuck with you?
“I’ve been so lucky. Carla Gugino and Henry Thomas, who played my parents on The Haunting of Hill House, gave me a lot of confidence. I was only six, and they were so supportive. Seeing how prepared and humble they were taught me a lot about work ethic. The best advice I’ve gotten is to be myself, keep my family and friends close, and trust the process.”
You’ve tackled many intense roles. What kind of characters or genres would you like to explore in the future?
“I love the horror genre — it’s been so good to me. But I’d really like to try a comedy. It would be fun to show my funny, happier, or even sarcastic side!”
