Coming from a Mexican and French background, model Sophia Esperanza @sophiaesperanza has become a well-known and powerful activist for animal cruelty reform and climate activism. She has a vegan cooking show on YouTube with 300k subscribers and three million followers on Instagram.
She speaks often about our responsibility to the planet and on being mindful and present. The purpose of this shoot, created by the award-winning color-blind fashion photographer Nicholas Merzetti, was to create a metaphor for all things natural. All-natural, cruelty-free vegan makeup and hair products, nature-inspired props, and no photoshop.
“Any chance I get, I bring Mother Nature into my art. She is the giver of life and it’s an ode to her. Ornamented with her elements, I feel in tune and true to form.”
“Whether we choose to see it or not we’re all a bunch of mystical creatures. Magic ones at that. My mood boards are always a mash-up of whimsical & ethereal creatures that reflect the world around me. I showed the team a picture of a wood nymph and they made it come to life. It’s a dream to work with artists who are inspired beyond the mood board.”
The photographer only used an old Olympus point and a fuji x100v and the shooting took place at Merzetti Studios, a large natural light studio in Toronto, Canada.
Aa a Cree Indian proverb says “Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.” We’re in a pivotal time in Earth’s history. Our everyday choices will be the deciding factor in our fate as a species. We have to be lighter to Earth, she’s our only home.
“I hope my art, collaborations, and self bring people peace. We need more content that soothes us.”
