Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo has partnered with Shochiku Kabuki, the primary company in performing the Japanese art of Kabuki, ¬†for its latest capsule collection which aims to present Japan’s traditional culture in the form of modern pop culture through clothing.

Kabuki is a traditional Japanese form of theater with roots tracing back to the Edo Period (1603-1868). In 2005, Kabuki was added to the list of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. For this capsule collection, the Project Ambassador will be Kabuki actor Ichikawa Ennosuke IV.

The collection consists of 15 T-shirts and 16 pairs of  steteco (relaxed-fit, wide leg shorts), embodying the traditional costumes worn by Kabuki performers . The collection is available online and in stores around the world.
