PUMA x ROSÉ Gives the Speedcat a Crocodile-Effect Makeover

Crocodile texture is creeping back into our shoe rotation

After Jacquemus and Timberland brought the finish to their latest boat shoe collaboration, PUMA is giving its Speedcat the same treatment, with ROSÉ as the face of the campaign. The result is a familiar silhouette with a glossy new detail, just enough to make you look twice.

Available from October 15, the PUMA x ROSÉ Speedcat Croco Leather arrives in three colourways: black, deep brown and off-white. No neon, no loud colour blocking, no need to overcomplicate things. Instead, the low-profile racing shoe keeps its streamlined shape, pairing a soft suede upper with crocodile-textured overlays across the Formstrip and eyestays.

From the racetrack to the sidewalk

The Speedcat wasn’t originally designed to look good with baggy jeans. First introduced in 1999, the silhouette grew out of PUMA’s motorsport heritage, with a slim profile and thin sole made for racing drivers. The idea was simple: less bulk between your foot and the pedal, more control behind the wheel. Fast-forward to today, and the same low-profile shape has found a second life on the street, far away from the Formula 1 cockpit.

While chunky sneakers once dominated the conversation, the Speedcat brought a different kind of energy: close to the ground, almost like a second skin. You can still see that racing DNA in the narrow shape and the way the sole follows the foot. But the purpose has changed. You’re no longer trying to feel the accelerator beneath your foot; you’re walking around the city, and the low profile gives the shoe a lighter, less bulky feel.

PUMA doesn’t need to mess with a silhouette people already recognise. The glossy panels add a little drama to a shoe that otherwise stays close to its original design. Black and brown feel easy enough to wear on repeat, while the off-white version has that clean, slightly retro look that works with almost anything.

Same speedcat, different texture

The Speedcat has already made its way from motorsport heritage into everyday wardrobes, so a complete redesign would be unnecessary. Here, the change is all in the finish.

The brown and black versions feel especially suited to autumn outfits, while the off-white option keeps things lighter. They’re the kind of shoes that can work with baggy denim, tailored trousers or a simple skirt without demanding that the rest of your outfit follow their lead. The glossy details catch the light, but the silhouette stays understated enough for everyday wear.

It’s also a different direction from PUMA and ROSÉ’s recent Speedcat releases, which explored earthy brown and deep burgundy through nubuck leather. This time, the colour palette stays restrained while the texture does the talking.

Rosé’s speedcat era

Since becoming a PUMA brand ambassador in 2024, ROSÉ has helped bring the label’s archive silhouettes to a global audience. The latest release continues that partnership, with the BLACKPINK member fronting campaign images set in a softly lit, retro-inspired interior. The mood is understated, letting the shoes take centre stage without losing the effortless styling that has become part of her appeal.

The PUMA x ROSÉ Speedcat Croco Leather is available through PUMA’s website, flagship stores and selected stockists. If crocodile texture keeps appearing across footwear collaborations, this might be one of the easier ways to try the trend without committing to a pair of statement shoes that only work with one outfit.
