From the unveiling of his first collection for the maison to the series of Spring-Summer 2022 limited-edition capsule collections presented since February, Nigo has undoubtedly given us a fashion history lesson of a reinvigorated KENZO, a vision of the future that has taken us from the beginnings and heritage of the brand to the designer’s contemporary style. For this final and fourth installment, which completes the second runway collection for the house, Nigo closes with one of the brand’s most iconic elements through its “Poppy collection”.
The latest capsule collection revives and revisits the iconic poppy print from a contemporary point of view, applying it to two closets of archetypal men’s and women’s clothing and agender essentials.
Blooming across the various pieces that make up the collection, the poppy sprouts on cotton poplin Hawaiian shirts and relaxed soft jersey T-shirts as a graphic print on the back. On other shirts and shorts in cotton and matching viscose skirt the floral pattern is printed all over, as opposed to the subtlety and discretion with which the poppy blooms individually on the front pocket of the t-shirts and the back pocket of the cotton twill shorts. Along with poppy red, the capsule collection is maintained in a color palette of white, black, navy, and pink across the garments.
The practical philosophy of Nigo’s “real-to-wear” for the Maison through a true wardrobe for the future linked to the wisdom of the past pays homage to Kenzo Takada, making each of the garments revolve around the idea of the natural key elements characteristic of the founder’s legacy, inspired by the Japanese sensibility of flora and fauna as signs of symbols and feelings.
