The boys of Saint Laurent are ready for their close-ups in the latest preview for the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2017 menswear collection.
This will mark Anthony Vaccarello’s first menswear collection for the Parisian fashion house. Taking over from Hedi Slimane, Vaccarello has tweaked the label’s image by keeping the grunginess and the trademark Saint Laurent models that Slimane started during his tenure.
Reminiscent of Helmut Newton’s raw and personal polaroid’s (Newton being the first to photograph Yves Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking) — Collier Schorr captures innocence and eroticism in the campaign photos.
Nathalie Canguilhem continues the narrative in the film preview of the collection. Lukas Ionesco in the short-film leads a pack of young rebellious boys through undisclosed locations. Canguilhem sets the ambiguity through a series of close-ups and mid-shots.
This is an image building exercise for Vaccarello — to establish himself and lure in a fan-base like Slimane did.
In terms of clothes, expect Vaccarello to combine The Matrix with Larry Clark’s Kids.
