In a recent interview with Fox News, South African billionaire Elon Musk revealed that he is working on an alternative to ChatGPT, the AI developed by OpenAI, a company he co-founded. Musk plans to create something called TruthGPT, which he describes as an AI that “seeks the ultimate truth” and “tries to understand the nature of the universe.”
Elon Musk aims to develop an AI that doesn’t render humans obsolete, which is a concern shared by both Musk and other industry experts. According to Musk, the goal is to create an AI that is less likely to harm humans: “I think this could be the best path towards safety in the sense that it’s unlikely that an AI that cares about understanding the universe would annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”
Musk has been working for some time on creating a seemingly safer alternative to ChatGPT. He has reportedly purchased 10,000 graphics card units and founded his own AI company called X.AI. Back in February, he tweeted that what we needed was “TruthGPT.”
The CEO of Tesla, Twitter, and SpaceX has repeatedly expressed their concerns about the rapidly evolving AI landscape. In a February conference, Musk stated that AI is “one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization.” Weeks later, he signed an open letter along with other executives and experts, calling for a pause in the development of new AI models to create safety protocols. The goal is to prevent AI products, like GPT-4, from replacing humans and potentially taking control of our civilization.
Musk has also advocated for AI regulation, suggesting an oversight board similar to those governing other potentially dangerous industries, such as the pharmaceutical industry.
At this time, there are no details on when TruthGPT will be launched, nor do we know if that will be its official name or what features this AI will include. However, it is likely to be similar to ChatGPT or Google’s Bard.
