At the heart of Missoni SS27, presented during Milan Fashion Week, is movement: free movement and the spontaneity of pairing clothes almost casually, without structures or rules. The accessories feel deliberately “wrong,” paired with soft and comfortable looks that can be worn indistinctly from day to night. The eye is inevitably drawn to the thick socks worn with sandals that almost disappear beneath them, a styling choice that captures the collection’s instinctive, rule-free attitude.
The palette moves through soft, natural colours such as sand, dusty pink and tobacco, shades that feel quite new within the Missoni universe, traditionally associated with vibrant colours and kaleidoscopic combinations. Shell-shaped necklaces recall souvenirs from a journey that has stayed in our hearts, while bags are oversized and hats appear again and again over the collection, in different colours but always with the same adventurous, asymmetrical silhouette.
A nomadic-chic attitude prevails throughout the show by creative director Alberto Caliri, the first since the brand’s founding family completely stepped away from its ownership. Founded in 1953 by Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, Missoni built an instantly recognisable language around knitwear, colour and pattern. Zigzags, stripes, geometric motifs and layers of colour transformed knitwear into something free and sophisticated.
SS27 therefore arrives at a moment of transition for Missoni: on one side, one of the most recognisable visual heritages in Italian fashion; on the other, the need to imagine how those codes can evolve beyond the family that created them. The result, at least on the runway, seems to start precisely from lightness: fewer rules, less rigidity and a wardrobe built around the instinct of the person wearing it.
