Ralph Lauren SS27 Brings Two Sides of Femininity to NYFW

For SS27, Ralph Lauren explores two sides of femininity, where sharp tailoring meets ethereal sensuality and classic American elegance takes an unexpectedly extravagant turn.

Ralph Lauren’s SS27 collection takes to the runway at New York Fashion Week with a surprising balance of rigor and extravagance, classicism and lightness. Framing the show is an almost entirely empty space, immersed in white: a minimal setting that heightens the presence of the clothes, allowing silhouettes, textures and contrasts to shape the collection’s visual language.

The codes that have defined the Ralph Lauren universe for decades are all there, yet this time they seem to break free from their own rules. The American wardrobe is deconstructed and reassembled with unexpected freedom: pinstripe trousers meet feather-covered jackets, three-piece suits are adorned with floral brooches, while the precision of traditional tailoring coexists with more sensual proportions and midriff-baring pieces.

The collection unfolds through a continuous play of opposites. Shimmering evening gowns alternate with creations of an almost angelic lightness, paired with long sheer gloves. This ethereal femininity is countered by a more controlled, androgynous sensuality, expressed through sharply tailored suits, shirts and ties. Masculine and feminine are no longer treated as separate worlds, but as different elements within the same vocabulary.

There is a sense that this is a collection speaking to a younger generation without overtly chasing it. Rather than simply adopting its codes, Ralph Lauren seems to absorb its freedom to mix references and blur traditional dress codes. A shirt and tie lose their formality when paired with jeans; a long white dress is stripped of its eveningwear solemnity with sneakers; fur-collared jackets are layered over low-rise denim.

The result is a collection that resists being confined to a single aesthetic and feels all the more contemporary for it. Ralph Lauren moves effortlessly between different worlds without losing sight of its identity, showing how a language built over decades can continue to evolve without erasing its past.

At the end of the show, the 86-year-old designer emerges through the same doorway that marked the beginning of the runway. A long round of applause turns into a standing ovation, an almost symbolic closing image for a designer who, decades into his career, continues to question and reinterpret the very idea of American elegance he helped define.
