The animated video game adaptation grossed a total of $490 million USD in North America and $532 million USD internationally. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is now only the fifth film during the pandemic era to join the coveted $1 billion USD club, following in the footsteps of films such as Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World: Dominion, and Avatar: The Way of Water.
In just the first five days of its opening, The Super Mario Bros. Movie hit $204 million USD at the box office, making it the biggest opening weekend of the year and the second-biggest debut ever for an animated film. Since its release, it is now the highest-grossing movie of 2023 and the highest-ever grossing for a video game-based movie.
