On Wednesday, October 22nd, Art Basel kicked off with the launch of Prince Gyasi‘s groundbreaking exhibition at Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme. A self-taught photographer from Ghana, Gyasi uses his synesthesia— a neurological phenomenon that leads him to associate colors with words— to depict his homeland in the luminous colors it evokes within him. Guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the grand lobby of Park Hyatt while taking in Gyasi’s vibrant artwork, which contrasts the Western misconceptions of Africa and instead elicits feelings of optimism and exuberance.
