There was a time when luxury hotels tried to make you feel at home. The new generation wants exactly the opposite. It wants to seduce you, confuse you and convince you that you’ve accidentally wandered into someone else’s impossibly glamorous life.

Hidden among the polished chaos of the Haut Marais, where vintage dealers coexist with fashion crowds and cafés become casting rooms by noon, Experimental’s Paris flagship doesn’t behave like a hotel. It behaves like a beautifully curated obsession.

Designed by Tristan Auer, the interiors flirt with neo-Gothic drama without ever slipping into costume. Cathedral-like arches, stained glass, rich brown palettes and cinematic lighting create the feeling of walking through a Paris that probably never existed—but should have. Every room feels like a still from a film nobody has made yet.

Then there’s Temple & Chapon, where chef Mélanie Serre swaps performative fine dining for something far more seductive: food that actually makes you want to stay longer. Imagine New York steakhouse energy filtered through unmistakable French precision, then wrapped inside a dining room filled with the fictional travel souvenirs of an imaginary aesthete. Somehow, it all makes perfect sense.

Experimental has always been good at selling a lifestyle before selling a room. The group invented a new language for cocktail culture in Paris long before everyone suddenly became an expert in martinis, and that instinct for shaping desire rather than simply offering service still defines everything it touches.

What makes Hotel Experimental Marais interesting isn’t the five stars, the spa, the indoor pool or even its impeccable design. Paris has plenty of beautiful hotels. What it doesn’t have enough of are places with personality.

This is one of them.

It’s theatrical without being loud, luxurious without being sterile, and cool without desperately trying to convince you that it’s cool—a surprisingly rare achievement in 2026.

If the old Paris was about checking into history, Hotel Experimental Marais is about checking into a fantasy. And frankly, fantasy has never looked so comfortable.
