Oricon is a company in charge of a Japanese corporate group that provides statistics on various areas such as music, television, books, films, and, of course, manga! Recently, Oricon released its manga sales rating just in time for the end of the year, with prevalent and familiar titles such as One Piece and Spy x Family appearing on the list.
2022 has been a big year for anime, manga, and film adaptations. Thanks to the Oricon statistics and ratings, we can see the top manga sales weekly, which I will discuss below!
1) Jujutsu Kaisen Volume 21

In the first place, we have one of the highest-selling manga with over 70 million cumulative sales of copies, Jujutsu Kaisen! The anime and manga follow Jujutsu Warriors, who aim to exterminate supernatural creatures hidden in plain sight. The Jujutsu Kaisen series has been well received and earned “anime of the year” in the 5th anime Crunchyroll award in 2021. The franchise also received the title of “animation of the year” in the “television category” of the Tokyo Anime Awards. Currently, the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise maintains its popularity for the season, with volume 21 selling over 560,000 copies after its December 2nd release date.
2) Tokyo Revengers Volume 30

Following the suite of Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga sales, Tokyo revengers manga sale for volume 30 ranks second on Oricon’s list. With a total of 65 million copies sold, it’s clear the franchise is popular and loved by many, hence its high rank on the list. The manga follows an action-packed story of protagonist Takemichi Hanagaki’s journey into the past, where he infiltrates the Tokyo Manji Gang to rescue his ex-girlfriend from a dreadful fate. Volume 30 of Tokyo Revengers has accumulated over 64,000 copies since its release on November 17, 2022. With season 2 set for release in January 2023, excitement and buzz will surely rise!
3) Honey Lemon Soda Volume 21

Volume 21 of Honey Lemon Soda, released on November 25, 2022, came in third place on the list of manga sales, with over 50,000 copies sold. Overall, the manga has sold around 10 million copies since its release. The manga’s main plot follows the love story between reserved protagonist Uka Ishimori and popular classmate Kai Miura. In 2021, Honey Lemon Soda was featured in Da Vinci’s “book of the year” list at rank 40.
4) Blue Box (Ao No Hako) Volume 8

Ao no hako, also known as Blue Box, is a manga and live-action film that follows the story of Taiki Inomata and his crush Chinatsu Kano through a tale of romance and sports. It ranks fourth on the manga sales rank, with over 40,000 copies of the 8th volume sold. The manga was published in April 2021 and is maintaining its steadily rising popularity, with 1.8 million copies sold overall.
5)Kujou No Taizi Volume 7

Ranked at number 5 is volume 7 of Kujou no Taizai, with around 38,541 copies sold since its release date of November 30th. The main focus of the manga is the journey of a lawyer named Taiza Kujou. Overall, Kujou No Taizi has sold 1.8 million copies.
6) One Piece Volume 104

Finally, at number 6 is Volume 104 of the classic favoured manga and anime One piece. The One Piece franchise is one of the best-selling manga series of all time, and with 500 million copies sold, it’s also the highest-earning franchise of all time. Praised for its humour and storytelling, the franchise follows a young boy made of rubber named Monkey D. Luffy on his journey to find the mythical treasure known as “One Piece.” The classic franchise has many movies, crossovers, live actions, and a TV series; with the series available in multiple languages, it’s no surprise it has been popular worldwide!

Though fan favourite Spy x family ranked 21st in Oricon’s list for manga sales for volume 10, it has accumulated 25 million sales of manga copies as of September 2022, with over 20,000 copies sold since volume 10’s release date of October 4th. Spy x Family won the book of the year award for the 22nd annual Da Vinci book of the year, with several volumes of the manga mentioned in the New York Times “Graphic Books and Manga Bestsellers” monthly list.
