As we gradually return to the in-person presentations, we can say without a doubt that the theme of lockdown has been the subject of inspiration for designers, who present different proposals in relation to this theme and its affinity with clothing. While some opt for colorful presentations and sportswear style, others manage to capture through their proposals how suffocating it can be to wear your best look but without going out at home, or simply being tied to this dynamic with which almost two years have passed since the beginning of the pandemic. This can be seen in designer Jungwoo Park’s (a.k.a. Woo Park) The Stolen Garment (I.G. @thestolengarment) Spring Summer 2022 collection showcased at New York Fashion Week which whose main theme was merinthophobia, (fear of being tied up).
Through a palette of black, white, and red tones, pieces with clean and subtly extravagant lines, elements of the collection’s theme, as well as BDSM, can be seen throughout the collection through components that could reflect the restriction of the body or a materialization of the body’s fluidity, a kind of visible aura that one might sometimes feel suffocated by despite wearing the best outfit, or at times exude a certain kind o freedom.
