Rob Hookey @robhimages, a Waanyi, Ngadjon, First Nations photographer based in Sydney, Australia from Townsville Queensland, worked with the stylist Angelica Cueva to present this fashion editorial exclusively created for Vanity Teen online with the model Nitesh Pillai @nitesh.pillai represented by IMG Models @imgmodels.
The inspiration and concept behind this editorial were focused on the model Nitesh. The photographer wanted to display fashion in a desert-like environment and showcase the beautiful skin tones of Nitesh with bright-colored fashion pieces as a way of celebrating dark skin tones because the photographer states that “in Australia, we don’t celebrate dark skin tones enough.”
The team had to walk down the notorious 15-minute path down to sand dunes, with the stylist carrying a rail and suitcase full of gear, having to face a really challenging situation bringing a rail to the sand dunes. They arrived safe and sound and the place was just amazing and they had the space all to themselves. “The vision was all coming together.”
“I wanted to portray a sense of endless freedom, bright colors, that it’s ok to be lost and not know where you’re going in a positive way.”Rob Hookey
The equipment used was a Canon EOS RP and 50mm 1.2 Lens, and a Cronulla reflector, and it took place in the beautiful Sand Dunes in Sydney, Australia.
