Long Time in the Making
It’s been a long wait, but Netflix is finally ready to unveil its upcoming One Piece adaptation. Equally crucial is the series’ premiere date, with the eight-episode series set to begin streaming on Netflix on August 31.
Based on the Long-Standing Manga and Anime
The live-action adaptation, based on Eiichiro Oda’s long-running manga and anime, was first announced back in 2020. Since then, we have seen only small teasers. “Considering my life expectancy, I believe this is the last chance to bring One Piece to the entire world,” Oda stated at the time. “If we’re going to do it, I want to be able to oversee things while I’m still active. That’s why I accepted the One Piece live-action adaptation in 2016.”
Eiichiro Oda’s Close Involvement
Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the original One Piece manga, serves as an executive producer on the series and has been closely collaborating with Netflix to ensure the show aligns as closely as possible with his vision. He made a statement on One Piece’s Twitter account in May about the progress of the show.
A while back, we had an exclusive interview for Vanity Teen Digital with the lead actor of the series, Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy. Check out the full interview at this link.
