Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ Spring/Summer 2023 collection for Prada was an invitation to rethink what style is. According to the press release, “Fashion here is evoked through context, the juxtaposition of elements and garments, fashioning an impression, creating style. Fashion as a manner, a way as well as a means of appearing. An expression of choice.” “Choice”, the name of the collection.
Through characteristic pieces of the brand as well as the Belgian designer, the collection presented the characteristic pieces but under a new lens, inviting us to think about how style is style under the conditions of context and perception, which led them to the complex and creative selection and creation of this collection of “apparent simplicity” that combined in an unusual way, the individual garments, generating a different impact, a different identity according to the dialogue of each piece with the others as well as their degree of adherence to the body silhouette: an awareness of their shape and dynamism.
All this is highlighted by the setting of a simulated house, the first place where we begin to make the first “choice” of style, among them the typical but at the same time “important”: “what am I going to wear today?”, which varies according to the context, the age, and the situation/occasion of the person or event and, finally, in relation to our own person, a fluidity of style.
