Season after season, Louis Gabriel Nouchi’s runway exhibits an unparalleled flair for translating classic drama into fashion. After taking inspiration from Pierre Choderlos de Laclos’ ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ for Spring 2023 and Bret Easton Ellis’ ‘American Psycho’ for Fall 2023, Nouchi sets his sights on Christopher Isherwood’s 1964 novel ‘A Single Man’ for Spring 2024.
A Collection Alive with Emotion
The collection, sharing the novel’s title, beautifully encapsulates the book’s themes of love, loss, acceptance, and grief through a series of emotionally-charged garments. Yet, it never overly relies on its source material, ensuring a unique, standalone impact.
The SS24 show at Paris’ Palais de Tokyo opens with a romantic brown leather coat, elegantly wrapped to reveal just a hint of the black tie and white-collared shirt underneath. This is swiftly followed by oversized and fitted brown suits, accompanied by two sculpted tops seemingly frozen in time. Complementing trousers, in a matching hue, sit low on the waist, unveiling an unusual men’s bodysuit subtly hidden beneath.
A Daring Palette
Emerging from the rich brown tones, the collection unfurls a bold palette. A cheerful yellow makes its debut across several formalwear silhouettes, including suit jackets, trousers, and ties. A deep blue ensues, gracing a flowing robe, a shirt, baggy pants, and a tie. Here, eveningwear exudes a relaxed vibe.
Still, neutral tones hold their ground, featuring prominently on asymmetrical tops, glossy leather separates, and a range of athleisure silhouettes.
