This is the latest collaboration between Jaden Smith and Levi’s and it stands out as the most personal to date, the young artist designed it on his own.
During this collaboration, Will Smith’s son Jaden took inspiration from the art of graffiti, and he uses the classic Levi’s denim as its canvas. An artist of many interests, actor, director, rapper, designer, he is also an enthusiast of DIY customization, and does custom screen printing at home in his garage. This hobby inspired the collection, everything on the pieces was hand-drawn by him.
“I love to customize things. I love to customize my Levi’s and screen print on them, and do all different types of things on them.” shared Jaden with the brand.
Featured on the front and rear of the iconic 501 jeans and the Type III trucker jacket, his designs include peace signs all over the pant legs and onto the jacket, and at the back of this, a rib cage print and the phrase “Artificial Laser Focus Group” in black. This is a representation, in Smith’s words, of his “desire to cut through a room with a bright light, like a laser,”.
Earlier this year Levi’s also chose to work alongside Smith (amongst other young talents) to lead their campaign focused on sustainability. With the “Buy Better, Wear Longer” Spring campaign the denim brand wanted to spread awareness about how fashion production and consumption have reached unsustainable levels.
“I’m glad Levi’s is changing that message, so that the idea of using second-hand clothes or donating the clothes you no longer wear is really cool.” said Jaden Smith about their collaboration back then.
Jaden has been a committed activist for environmental sustainability since he was 11 years old. He owns a sustainably sourced water company, JUST Water, with responsible plant-based cardboard packaging and water responsibly sourced. He also works on a non-profit organization, 501CTHREE to bring clean drinking water to those who need it. Back in June he was honored by UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability.
Jaden Smith’s limited-edition capsule will be released on December 13, exclusively on the brand’s app.
