Since Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director joined the fashion game, the brand has experienced a great change. Having announced launching only two collections a year with male and female items, the brand now presents Gucci MX, a new section with a selection of genderless items. Being the first luxury brand to do this, its main aim is to ‘deconstruct preconceived binaries and question how these concepts relate to our bodies. Celebrating self-expression in the name of all gender equality,‘
The project consists of a section of womenswear and menswear items from previous collections, but with the distinction that the brand considers that those selected pieces can’t be defined with the common tags, meaning everyone can wear them, no matter their gender identity or any other matters.
A curated selection of items across categories and collections, the world of MX defies traditional stereotypes, celebrating liberty and self-expression.
The House’s collections emphasize the dissolving lines of the gender divide in the name of self-expression. Playing with the constructive nature of gender, MX underlines the performative nature of what we wear, presenting masculinity and femininity as relative concepts.
Gucci has informed that Gucci MX will be updated with new items every time they release new collections. Alessandro Michele has already started the change in the fashion industry to create genderless clothing, hoping this makes other brands start doing the same!
