With Dior and Parley for the Oceans summer is fashionable and sustainable

Dior teamed up with Parley for the Oceans to unveil a new Beachwear Capsule

Dior Men released a new line of beachwear for which it joined Parley for the Oceans, a non-profit environmental organization founded in 2012 that focuses on protecting the oceans, especially when it comes to preventing plastic pollution.

Parley for the Oceans CEO and Founder Cyrill Gutsch commented; “With the latest science highlighting the dire urgency of action, we need transformational change in every sector of society to end the rapidly unfolding impacts on both humans and nature and protect our future on this magical blue planet. Creating this first collection with Dior is a call for the fashion industry to revolutionize its production methods”

Gutsch also added that every Dior product contributes to the ‘Parley X10’ initiative, which guarantees that ‘10 times the equivalent’ of each product’s carbon and plastic footprint comes from nature, and avoids the use of new, virgin plastic. They also help fund their global work against the plastic and climate crisis.

The items in the collection incorporate threads and fabrics made from recycled marine plastic waste and recovered fishing gear from coasts and islands around the world, transformed into high performance materials. The fashion house used the recycled polyester developed by Parley to create fabrics including  jacquard, mesh knit and technical canvas.

The capsule includes items such as a shirt jacket, cargo shorts, poplin pants and polo shirts. To go with the travel-friendly nature of the capsule, there are also packable jackets that fit into a curved pouch inspired by the famous Saddle handbag as well as accessories such as a water bottle holder.

The color palette is beach inspired, with white, blue and ochre. Some of the pieces feature the “Dior Oblique” pattern, and others a ripple motif from the archives, known as the “Adriatic”.  Also, the B23 sneakers will come in a variation of the Adriatic fabric and feature bio-based plastic soles.

This collaboration is in line with the French house’s long-running commitment to sustainability. The firm, through their “Dream in Green” dedicated program and committee, aims to keep striving to find the most innovative solutions to achieve environmental excellence.

The Beachwear Capsule will be available on April 14th, with more details announced via the brand’s website.
