The 20-year-old singer-songwriter, Caity Baser, is just getting started, although her fame has been swiftly on the rise, partly due to the viral nature of TikTok. Fresh off the success of her recent single “Pretty Boys”, the ironically-minded artist has gathered a cult following thanks to her refreshingly honest lyrics and catchy pop tunes.
From Southampton to Brighton
Born in Southampton, Baser is currently based in Brighton. Baser began posting videos to TikTok during the first UK lockdown, following a revelation that she no longer cared about other people’s opinions of her music. Her song about feeling lost in life, “Average Student”, released in August 2020, gained 1,000,000 views on TikTok, attracting the attention of a management agency that invited her to a London studio to meet the producers, Future Cut.
Journey to Stardom
Interestingly, Baser had just worked one shift at The Co-operative Food the day before her breakthrough moment, a job she took to save money for studio sessions. The experience of getting invited to the studio caused her to quit her job after her third shift. “Average Student” was then released on Spotify on 19 March 2021.
Charting Singles and Collaborations
Following her initial success, Baser released three subsequent singles, “Haters”, “Say It Like That”, and “Slut Shaming”. Her four singles appeared on her mixtape, Lil CB, on 2 July 2021, and another single, “Virtually”, was released on 28 January 2022. On 3 March 2023, she collaborated with Mae Muller and Stefflon Don on the Sigala track “Feels This Good”, which peaked at number 93 on the UK Singles Chart. She also featured on Joel Corry’s “Dance Around It”, charting at No. 65 on the UK Singles Chart.
With honest lyrics and catchy melodies, Baser has managed to secure a contract with the record label EMI and is currently on promotional tours while working on new music. She is indeed a pop singer to watch, paving her way from TikTok to the global music scene.
