Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2027: the Body and Soul collection

Andreas Kronthaler continues to make the house his own,  with Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2027 introducing a more personal, instinctive vision while preserving the rebellious codes, historical references and irreverent spirit that made Vivienne Westwood iconic

For Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2027, titled Body & Soul, Andreas Kronthaler delivers one of the clearest examples yet of how his own creative universe can coexist with Westwood’s vocabulary. The corsetry, exaggerated volumes, historical references, asymmetrical draping, provocative styling and punk attitude remain instantly identifiable, but they no longer feel like elements that need to be preserved for their own sake. Instead, they become tools Kronthaler manipulates freely.

The Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2027 collection was presented at the Palais de la Femme in Paris, a building celebrating its 100th anniversary, and began conceptually in Barbès, where Kronthaler sourced vividly coloured Bazin fabrics. Florals collide with leopard prints, checks, translucent layers and rich surfaces in a wardrobe that moves constantly between historical dress, street culture and something much more spontaneous.

One of the most interesting references is the late-17th-century “Cheat Jacket”, a garment traditionally made using precious fabric only on the visible front while cheaper remnants were used at the back. The designer turns the idea into something almost philosophical: front and back are given equal importance, particularly when the clothes are seen in movement. It is exactly the type of historical reference that belongs naturally within the Westwood universe, but here it is filtered through his own humour and way of constructing clothes.

The fundamental Westwood principle remains intact: clothes should never behave too well.

A polished silhouette is interrupted by volume; romantic florals meet punk gestures; tailoring is distorted; fabrics clash rather than coordinate. Even pieces that could initially appear conventional reveal an imbalance, an unexpected proportion or a theatrical element. Westwood always understood fashion as something that could challenge the eye before pleasing it, and Kronthaler continues to protect that tension making it more personal and more recognizable.

The presence of activism also remains essential in Vivienne Westwood Spring Summer 2027. The show included a limited-edition T-shirt created in support of Body & Soul, an organisation working in long-term suicide prevention, maintaining the idea that fashion at Westwood cannot be completely separated from social engagement.
