With its SS27 collection, titled Far Horizon, Max Mara celebrates the bold and cosmopolitan women of the 1930s, pioneering figures who challenged the social conventions of their time to forge their own independent paths. Among the women who inspire this vision are aviators Amelia Earhart and Beryl Markham, as well as explorer Freya Stark, whose famous words inspired the collection’s title:
“Surely, of all the wonders in the world, the horizon is the greatest.”

Under the creative direction of Ian Griffiths, who has been shaping the identity of the house for almost forty years, the safari jacket emerges as one of the collection’s defining pieces. It is reinterpreted in different forms, either tied at the hips or elongated in its proportions. Its practical and adventurous character is brought into an urban context, giving the Max Mara woman a dynamic and effortless attitude.
A strong utility aesthetic runs throughout the collection, balancing refinement with functionality. Elegance alone is not enough: these clothes are designed to meet the practical needs of pragmatic, independent women navigating the challenges of everyday life. Pockets, volumes and functional details therefore become more than decorative elements; they are an integral part of the garments’ identity.
The accessories follow the same approach. Bags come in oversized proportions and soft silhouettes, designed to be spacious, practical and suited to a life in constant motion.
