Tommy Hilfiger returned to The Plaza Hotel with a collection built from the pieces that made his version of American prep recognizable in the first place. Gigi Hadid opened the show, Romeo Beckham walked the final look and Slayyyter performed as the runway closed.
Gigi Hadid opened Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2027 in a slouchy khaki blazer over cherry-red trousers, immediately establishing the collection’s preference for familiar clothes with less rigid proportions. Presented at The Plaza Hotel, where Hilfiger once lived with his family, the show continued the designer’s long-running interest in American prep, a subject previously explored in his Spring 2026 campaign American Dreamer.

Looking Back at Tommy Hilfiger
The collection returned to rugby shirts, Oxford stripes, polos, chinos and Ivy tailoring, but the more convincing pieces came when those references became specific to Hilfiger’s own archive. Silk replaced the expected cotton on rugby shirts. Sailing jackets appeared with suede panels. Plaid moved onto elongated board shorts and zipped coat dresses.
That material shift is important because the collection rarely tries to disguise where its ideas come from. The rugby shirt still reads as a rugby shirt. The Oxford remains an Oxford. What changes is the weight, scale or context around the garment.
The collection sheet describes cropped polos alongside oversized versions, high-cut chino shorts in saturated color and tartan used across Ivy jackets. The familiar red, white and blue palette was joined by vivid yellow and green, while the Tommy flag appeared faded across superfine suede, silk-cashmere and oversized tote bags.
The clearest example of this archival approach was also one of the least conventional looks in the show: a long white silk tank dress printed with the Times Square billboard that helped introduce Hilfiger to New York in the 1980s. The original advertisement famously positioned his name beside Ralph Lauren, Perry Ellis and Calvin Klein.
That image is more useful than another generic crest or logo because it belongs specifically to the history of the brand. Printing it across a dress turns an old piece of advertising into clothing without pretending the reference is newly invented.

Prep Through Proportion
The strongest styling changes happened through silhouette. Oversized polos were pushed past their usual proportions, while other versions were cropped close to the body. Chinos appeared as high-waisted hot shorts. Plaid, usually associated with blazers or collegiate trousers, was extended into longer shorts and coat dresses.
The footwear helped pull the clothes away from a literal campus reference. Rounded two-tone skate sneakers borrowed their shape from the 1990s, sitting beside boat shoes, penny loafers and leather versions of pool slides.

The Accessories Kept the Archive Visible
Accessories carried some of the more literal branding. Oversized totes used faded versions of the Tommy flag, while plaid bucket hats and skate sneakers pushed the collection back toward the 1990s. Oversized polos and plaid accessories are the defining elements of the show.
The distinction between these pieces and the billboard dress is useful. A large flag tote relies on instant recognition; the printed dress requires knowing something about the history behind the image. Spring 2027 used both approaches, but the latter gave the collection more character.

Who Was at The Plaza
The front row was broad, though there is no reason for the article to become a celebrity roll call. JISOO, Kate Moss and Camila Cabello were among the guests, alongside Arón Piper, Patrick Schwarzenegger and several New York Knicks players. The sports presence was particularly consistent with Hilfiger’s current brand strategy: Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns and Miles McBride all attended, while the brand has continued expanding its connections to professional sport.

Slayyyter After the Runway
Romeo Beckham walked the final runway look before Slayyyter took over the finale. Wearing a red Tommy Hilfiger shirt with cropped shorts, a necktie and black knee-high boots, she performed “Dance” and “Unknown Loverz.” The second song was confirmed in Vogue’s backstage coverage of her appearance.
Her styling was effective because it belonged visually to the collection without copying a runway look. The shirt and tie kept the collegiate reference intact, while the knee-high boots changed the proportion enough for the outfit to read as performance clothing.
This also made more sense within a Tommy Hilfiger show than an unrelated celebrity cameo would have. Music has been part of the brand’s presentation strategy for decades, and here the performance followed directly from the collection rather than interrupting it.

Spring 2027 is most interesting when the collection gets precise about what belongs to Tommy Hilfiger. The rugby shirts, faded flags and sailing references have been used before; the difference lies in how selectively the archive is handled. The silk rugby pieces feel worth returning to. So does the Times Square dress, precisely because it is too specific to be mistaken for generic prep.
