Fashion month is over.
And today our cheeky protagonist questions the role of so-called fashion critics and, above all, that of the founders of fashion-related social media pages that garner significant media attention (they’re called hype, as they say).
These accounts were created with the noble purpose of objectifying, democratizing, and criticizing (where fashion needs to be criticized).
Their respective founders sit in the front rows of the main fashion shows, seated next to the celebrity of the moment, with their “critical” eyes trained on the collections.
But criticism rarely occurs.
Too often, objectivity is obscured by the complacency of having been invited and being front-row.
With his cartoon for the CAN I SAY? column, Andrea de Angelis reminds us that criticism—when contextualized and reasoned—is a catalyst for reflection, growth, and sometimes renewal.
We hoped the days of Pravda were over.
