Designer Willy Chavarria unveiled a forthcoming silhouette from the adidas Originals x Willy Chavarria collaboration, the Chavarria Oaxaca Slip On, during a panel hosted by adidas Originals at the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, alongside adidas Archival Specialist Sandra Trapp, Originals Design Director Rafael Mayorga, and Director of Storytelling Valentina Benitez Castellanos.
Chavarria shared that the Oaxaca was inspired by the huarache, a classic Mexican sandal that has transcended generations and evolved into a staple of Chicano street style. Reimagining the timeless silhouette, Chavarria elevated it with a leather upper and an exaggerated sneaker sole, merging cultural heritage with bold design.
The panel discussion delved into the intersection of heritage and innovation, highlighting how a deep understanding of the past can lead to more authentic and meaningful collaborations. The event brought the adidas para Bad Bunny archive to life in Puerto Rico as part of the brand’s continued celebration of its partnership with Bad Bunny.
