Set to launch on May 24, 2024, Adidas Originals has announced a collaboration with Chinese fashion designer Caroline Hu. This collection merges Hu’s unique design language with the brand’s classic elements, showcasing a blend of romance, beauty, and an exploration of human connections.
Edison Chen facilitated the collaboration during last year’s Shanghai Fashion Week. Caroline Hu, a rising star in Chinese fashion design, has made a significant impact since founding her brand. She was shortlisted for the LVMH Young Designers Prize and won the BoF China Prize, becoming its first recipient. Her custom floral gown is part of the permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She has graced the Paris Fashion Week stage, continuously crafting her story in the fashion world.
In this collaboration, Caroline Hu continues the narrative from her Paris collection, exploring the distance and space between people. Using the classic Samba shoes from Adidas Originals, she employs lace and ruched techniques to create a soft, hazy “shell” that offers a sense of security while maintaining personal space in social interactions.
The layered and repeated lace symbolizes the subtle connections and overlaps between people. The color palette features rich hues of blue, pink, black, and cream, wrapping the Samba shoes in a soft, inviting atmosphere. The careful combination of materials, colors, and design conveys a gentle yet profound emotional concept, aiming to help individuals find balance and security in their interactions.
