The Imperial by Daniel Jae Oliva

Daniel Jae Oliva @bydanieljae, who works as a Creative Assistant for a men’s clothing company in Orange County, California, and who has been working freelance with modeling agencies based in Southern California for over three years now, presents this amazing fashion editorial exclusively created for Vanity Teen online with the handsome model Michael Loizzo @michaelloizzo represented by Wilhelmina Models Miami and STORM LA @storm_la.

“It has always been a goal of mine to do a shoot at the sand dunes,” says Daniel. That is why this photo shoot was created at the Imperial Sand Dunes, in Brawley, CA. The contrast created between the yellow sand of the dunes to the amazing blue skies is just fascinating to look at and very aesthetically pleasing. “The landscape is what I admire the most. It is something that is awe-inspiring.”

The idea for me was opposites attract. Though the idea was not original, I have always wanted to photograph heavy, thick clothes out in the desert. Something that doesn’t make sense but makes sense. I honestly would say that it turned out the way I wanted it. Michael was such an amazing model and has enjoyed our project together.

The photographer used a Canon 6D with a 24-70mm Lens. For the film shots, he used a Canon EOS Rebel XS with Kodak Portra 400 Film, directly under the California sun and with a help of a reflector, assisted by Shaira Faye Oliv. This time Daniel also took care of the styling, and he totally achieved what he had in mind. He managed to combine some great pieces from Gucci, Topman, 7Diamonds, Collusion, Dr. Martens, NN07, Uniqlo, Plan. Z(Korea), Polo by Ralph Lauren, Nordstrom, Libero_M(Korea), Rag&Bone, BP., Zara, RAUL(Korea), Reclaimed Vintage, Bershka, All Saints, ASOS Design, CK, and vintage pieces.
