Acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar is preparing a western titled ‘Strange Way of Life’, starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal. This surprising project comes after the announcement of the adaptation of Lucia Berlin‘s novel ‘A Manual for Cleaning Women’, featuring Cate Blanchett in the lead role.
‘Strange Way of Life’ will be filmed in the Tabernas Desert in Almería, Spain, and boasts a cast that includes Jason Fernández, José Condessa, George Steane, Manu Ríos, Pedro Casablanca, and Sara Salámo. The plot centers around a man seeking to reconnect with his former friend and fellow gunslinger, Sheriff Jake. The title references a famous fado by Amalia Rodrigues, suggesting the strangeness of living while turning one’s back on one’s own desires.

Ethan Hawke, known for movies such as ‘The Northman and ‘The Black Phone’, and Pedro Pascal, famous for his roles in ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’, take their careers to new heights with this promising Almodóvar project. Costume design will be handled by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello, who are also associate producers on the project.
This medium-length film marks a new challenge for Almodóvar, who has already experimented with different formats by adapting Jean Cocteau’s monologue ‘The Human Voice’ with Tilda Swinton. With ‘Strange Way of Life’, the Spanish director once again demonstrates his ability to surprise and reinvent himself in the world of cinema.
