“A New Wave of Talent Joins the Hit Korean Series, Alongside the Debut of ‘Squid Game: The Challenge'”
Big Changes Ahead In 2021, Netflix took the world by storm with ‘Squid Game.’ A few weeks ago, the platform announced that Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo will be reprising their roles as players Seong Gi-hun, Ji-yeong, Kang Sae-byeok, and the games recruiter, respectively. Alongside these returning stars, four new faces were revealed: Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-Hoon, and Yang Dong-Geun.
Since then, however, information about the second season has been scant. While no official release date has been confirmed (although many outlets are suggesting late 2023 to early 2024 window), Netflix has teased us with a look at the new actors joining the cast. But that’s not all! Netflix recently announced an additional eight actors to join the roster: Park Kyu-young, Jo Yu-ri, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, and Won Ji-an. Their roles, however, have yet to be disclosed.
Season two will be produced by Firstman Studio, with Hwang Dong-hyuk returning as the writer, director, and executive producer of the series. He will be joined by Kim Ji-yeon, who will also serve as a producer.
A New Spin In further development, Netflix is preparing a reality show based on the series, titled ‘Squid Game: The Challenge.’ Slated for a November release, the show will see contestants facing the same trials that players in the series must overcome in order to claim the prize.
