Fall/Winter 2026 is less a collection than a state of mind, where Yohji Yamamoto’s radical restraint collides with skateboarding’s most enduring icon

Fashion loves to talk about authenticity. Y-3 rarely has to.

For Fall/Winter 2026, the label reunites with Mark Gonzales: the legendary skateboarder, artist, poet, and eternal outsider whose influence stretches far beyond the halfpipe. Captured inside Paris’ Palais d’Iéna during the collection’s presentation, Gonzales doesn’t perform for the camera. He simply exists within it. And that’s precisely the point.

Photographed by Jet Swan, the campaign trades spectacle for intimacy. His grainy, cinematic imagery feels almost documentary, revealing the quiet tension between movement and stillness, precision and instinct. Every frame suggests that style isn’t something you wear—it’s something you accumulate over a lifetime.

This has always been the territory where Yohji Yamamoto and adidas find common ground. Not performance. Not luxury. But permanence.

The FW26 collection continues that conversation through silhouettes that refuse easy categorisation. Tailoring dissolves into oversized ease. Technical sportswear slips effortlessly into everyday uniforms. Deep black remains the dominant language, interrupted only by the irreverent interventions of Los Angeles artist Chito, whose graphics appear like visual glitches inside Yohji’s disciplined universe, never overwhelming it, only sharpening its attitude.

The wardrobe moves with the same quiet confidence as Gonzales himself. The Y-3 Knitted Sweater stretches the Three Stripes into elongated graphic gestures, its distressed edges suggesting years of wear before they’ve even begun. The Y-3 Chito Leather Biker Jacket injects controlled rebellion into the collection’s minimalist vocabulary, while the Y-3 Wool City Graphic Wide Pants reaffirm that volume remains one of Yohji’s most powerful design tools. Denim arrives stripped of nostalgia, treated instead as another architectural material.

Underfoot, the narrative continues. The Diagonal Stan Smith dismantles one of adidas’ most recognisable icons without erasing its DNA. The warped proportions of the Tokyo Warped push familiar forms into unfamiliar territory, while the Nisi High blurs the line between performance footwear and sculptural object.

There’s something refreshing about a campaign that refuses to manufacture relevance. Gonzales isn’t cast because he’s having a moment. He’s here because he never stopped mattering.

At a time when fashion cycles move faster than memory itself, Y-3 proposes something slower—and ultimately more radical. A wardrobe built on evolution rather than reinvention. A collaboration rooted in decades instead of seasons. A reminder that cultural longevity isn’t engineered through algorithms but earned through conviction.

Legacy, here, isn’t preserved.

It’s still moving.
