Louis Vuitton Collaborates With Yayoi Kusama Once Again

After ten years, contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama is collaborating with French fashion house Louis Vuitton again. The new collection is said to be launching in January 2023, with promotions for the collaboration taking place on billboards in Tokyo.

Displayed on the billboards are 3D anamorphic displays of Kusama’s signature polka dots embellished on a Louis Vuitton Damier trunk. The trunk opens up to reveal Kusama in between her infamous polka-dot pumpkins, wearing one as a helmet with an almost realistic illusion that she is peering her head over the trunk. The following sequence shows silver orbs (from Yayoi Kusama’s previous artwork) pouring out, followed by a variation of polka-dot embellished Louis Vuitton bags. Kusama is seen holding a reimagined version of her famous yellow polka-dot pumpkin, this time adorned with the LV emblem.

The new collection was first showcased at Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2023 runway show, with notable Louis Vuitton creations showcased through Kusama’s well-known motif.

For the second time, Louis Vuitton has invited the preeminent Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama to a new creative encounter, reawakening, evolving and expanding on the pioneering initial exchange. Launching in January 2023, the new Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama Collection will bring the artist’s emblematic motifs to the Maison’s creations.
