Levi Strauss & Co has teamed up with digital fashion studio Lalaland.ai to create AI-generated, personalized avatars, aiming to boost model diversity in a sustainable way. Set for testing in 2023, the collaboration will complement human models with AI-generated counterparts.
Founded in Amsterdam in 2019, Lalaland.ai uses advanced AI to help fashion brands and retailers create hyper-realistic models of various body types, ages, sizes, and skin tones. With these avatars, the company aims to foster a more inclusive, personalized, and eco-friendly shopping experience for both brands and customers.
Levi Strauss & Co is excited about the potential capabilities of AI-generated models in enhancing the consumer experience, as stated by Amy Gershkoff Bolles, Global Director of Digital and Emerging Technology Strategy. Partnering with Lalaland.ai, Levi’s sees fashion and technology as an art and science, aiming to promote diversity and inclusion.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion are top priorities for Levi’s, which has been working to ensure its workforce and the people in front and behind the camera reflect its diverse customer base. While the company doesn’t plan to abandon photography, the vast number of avatars created with Lalaland.ai might outnumber images of real people.
