Belgian designer Glenn Martens is taking Diesel’s “alternative to luxury” ethos a step further, aiming to attract a diverse range of consumers to the D-universe with the Resort 2024 collection. Martens translates the high-concept themes from Diesel’s Fall 2023 collection into a more accessible language and price point, in alignment with the brand’s democratic principles.
Martens believes everyone should be able to engage with Diesel’s collections, and this sentiment is reflected in the Resort 2024 designs. Adhering to the brand’s three pillars – denim, utility, and pop aesthetics – the collection features wearable pieces with metallic coating, fabric mismatches, distressed and trompe l’oeil effects.
Key pieces include unfussy sweatshirts and knit dresses with reflective treatments, as well as yellow denim pants that have been stonewashed for a cool, pop edge. Martens opted for a more democratic method of applying the metallic touch, industrializing the procedure for broader appeal.
In a bid to further connect with the Gen Z demographic, Diesel is hosting free raves in Rome on May 19, a bold move considering the political debates surrounding such events in Italy. Martens, with a hint of humor, takes this as a responsibility to uphold youth culture and the enjoyment of life.
