The Spring-Summer 2017 collection presented by Korean label WOOYOUNGMI in Paris got us confused – in a perfectly mastered way. Never far from the brutalist poetry they’ve built their name on, Mrs. Woo and Katie Chung treated their audience with an inventive construction game, mixing geometric prints, precise tailoring and a clever sense of layering.
Smartly entitled « Organised Chaos », the collection invites to observe, analyse and double-think each silhouette. Influenced by the work of conceptual artist Sol LeWitt, the mother/daughter duo draws a world of piled-up blocks and swinging swirls that demonstrates once again their sharp understanding of prints.
Hints of lilac, sand and olive-green bring the light to a perfectly shaped storm, drawn in shades of grey, white, blue. The pieces, severely and asymmetrically draped around fragile figures of timeless school boys, seemingly bored, desperately romantic.
Again this season, the label invited producer Stuart Sibley to perform a brilliant piece of melancholic electronica that elegantly accompanied a blurring story of theorems and melted hearts.
