Thomas Perez Thurin: “Do you. Don’t compare yourself to others.”

Today we talked with the Argentinian model Thomas Perez Thurin @thomasperezthurin who started in this industry because of the flexibility and independence it gives to him while studying at university. Besides this, he also loves being a model because it also enables him to do one of the things he loves the most in this world: traveling. Curiosity is another important feature on his life and that is why he enjoys traveling so much.

“I love getting to discover new cultures and learning new things. Right now traveling is one of my main priorities. I think curiosity is a very valuable asset because it keeps you on your toes, never settling for what you know, and drives you out of the “ordinary”.”

Seeing how handsome models are, we were curious about if models go to the gym or practice any other sport just because it is part of their job to keep fit and good looking or if on the contrary was because they enjoy it. For Thomas, exercising is a mixture of both situations.

“I have always loved sports and started practicing them when I was very little. I have tried almost all of them. Nevertheless, I also see working out as something I have to do for work. “

We love to ask models to give some advice for our readers because we believe that support is needed so very much in our daily lives and especially in this industry and one of the best ways to achieve that is by asking the people we interview so that they can encourage people. In this case, Thomas gives this amazing advice regarding success and how every each of us pictures success.

“Do you. Don’t compare yourself to others. Sometimes society is really competitive and makes us think success is defined in a certain way. Everybody’s definition of success is different. You should strive to achieve what it means to you.”

Q: How and why did you start modeling?

A: I was scouted via Instagram by the booker of my agency (Ariel Mendes) a couple of years ago. At that time he was a photographer and scout. We did a test shoot together, and he then submitted it to the first agency I worked with. Later on, I switched to my current agency (Sun Models) which he started. I think the main reasons why I started modeling are independence and flexibility. It is a great job to have while studying because it isn’t as time demanding as a “normal ” job. This is great for me because I’m currently at university. It also gave me some financial independence from my parents which I think is super important. Another thing I love about modeling is it gives me the possibility to travel, which is one of my passions.

Q: Are you a curious person?

A: Definitely. In all aspects of life. I love getting to discover new cultures and learning new things. If I come across a subject I don’t know much about I often find myself researching it. I love traveling, discovering new restaurants that serve different food, and I find myself looking for new music to listen to almost every day. I think curiosity is a very valuable asset because it keeps you on your toes, never settling for what you know, and drives you out of the “ordinary”.

Q: What does traveling mean to you?

A: A lot. Right now traveling is one of my main priorities. Each year I find myself waiting for the summer and winter breaks at university and planning where I would like to go next. I think it is the best way to get to know yourself. Seeing the world and how diverse it also reveals the different aspects of personality. I think we are a little bit different everywhere we go. In each place, we discover a new part of our identity. Traveling helps you know what you are made of. And it also allows you to see a different way of living, of doing things. Different food, different traditions. I am constantly amazed by how amazing the world is and all the beautiful places there are to discover.

Q: Can you tell us more about some of your hobbies?

A: Firstly, I love music. I listen to music every single day. The feeling I get from finding a new artist, or song, that makes me feel something different is amazing. I mainly listen to rock and underground house music (minimal, micro). Some of my favorite artists are Depeche Mode, The Stones, Oasis, Ricardo Villalobos, Raresh and Barac. I also am a big cinephile. I spend a lot of time watching and even rewatching movies. Some of my favorites are Interstellar, The Hateful Eight, The Prestige and Seven. I also really like going to the cinema, even if there isn’t a very good movie to watch. Sports are also a big part of my life. I love being active as I think it is not only good for the body but also the mind. If I’m having a bad day I find that a workout often clears my mind. I go to the gym, do some calisthenics, and love playing football with my friends.

Q: Being fit might be seen as part of the job of being a model. Do you practice sports for fun or for “work”?

A: I would say a bit of both. I have always loved sports and started practicing them when I was very little. I have tried almost all of them. swimming, basketball, football, rugby, tennis, badminton, fencing, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some. Nevertheless, I also see working out as something I have to do for work. This means doing it sometimes even if I don’t feel like it. Obviously there are some physical requirements in the industry to be met. But I think it is part of being professional and giving it your best effort. Even if there is a big luck component in modeling, I feel I have to do the most I can on my part, and that means adjusting my training to what is best for the job.

Q: Which are your future plans regarding studies and personal life?

A: The first thing I want to do is to finish my studies at university. I study economics and have about half a year left. After that, I’d like to move to Europe and start working there. Ideally, I would find a way to combine my jobs both as an economist and as a model. In the near future, I plan to travel to Barcelona (if the pandemic subsides) in the summer (European Winter) and do some modeling.

Q: Would you give any piece of advice to our readers in any matter?

A: Do you. Don’t compare yourself to others. Sometimes society is really competitive and makes us think success is defined in a certain way. Everybody’s definition of success is different. You should strive to achieve what it means to you.
