The recent Balmain Fall 2023 runway show marked a departure from past extravaganzas, opting for a more intimate setting that highlighted the brand’s heritage and craftsmanship. The creative team, led by Olivier Rousteing, decided to forego the usual fanfare, focusing instead on the house’s rich history and the meticulous work of the atelier. This approach allowed a select number of guests to appreciate the modern twists on founder Pierre Balmain’s signature silhouettes and cherished codes. The same ethos guided the Fall 2023 campaign, which eschewed props, dream locations, and CGI in favor of a spotlight on precise Parisian tailoring and architectural volumes. This approach underscored the connection between the collection and Pierre Balmain’s revolutionary ‘New French Style.’ Photographer Rafael Pavarotti, whose work Rousteing admires for its masterful use of light, color, and texture, was the perfect choice to capture the essence of Balmain’s craftsmanship and enduring codes. The resulting campaign, featuring brilliant tones, lustrous shine, and stunning models, seamlessly blends Balmain’s storied couture traditions with the contemporary beauty of 21st-century Paris.
