In the RUi SS24 Collection, the text explores the intricate relationship between the inner and outer worlds. It delves into the constant blending of these realms, as they expand infinitely, with the heterogeneous nature of “otherness” gradually retreating but occasionally resurfacing in unnoticed crevices. This dynamic creates an ambiguous symbiotic relationship, where both sides feed off each other as opposing forces in a game of equilibrium, often becoming oblivious to each other in uncertain power dynamics.
The collection itself visualizes this dichotomy through its designs. It features sharp “horns” emerging from within, tightly embracing the body with thin binding tape. These elements simultaneously convey closeness and aggression towards the outside world. Symmetrical prints of insect markings and snake-skin-like satin fabrics highlight the contrast between species. “Thorns” symbolize both nature’s resistance and humanity’s curiosity.
The collection is showcased in a glass sunroom in Paris, where an unknown intruder becomes part of an existential play, observed by an audience that adds an extra layer of perspective. This philosophical exploration reflects the interplay between physical and spiritual space, revealing the boundaries within the inner world. It emphasizes the simultaneous presence and absence of these worlds, creating a unique symphony of voices in the absence of one another.
